No fewer than one hundred and thirty private hospitals being run by unqualified persons have been discovered in Kano State.
We understands that the discovery was made by a committee inaugurated by the Chairman of the Tudun Wada Local Government Area of the state, Alhaji Tijjani Matata.
A report by the committee revealed that the hospitals and pharmacies were been operated by fake doctors, including an electrician and a secondary school result holder.
The electrician according to the reports, owned an eight-bed hospital where different illnesses are claimed to be treated.
Speaking on the development, the chairman of the committee, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Karafe, lamented that one of the fake doctors infused HIV-positive blood in a woman who attended his clinic to treat malaria.
Following a series of complaints received from residents over the proliferation of private hospitals and pharmacies in their various villages, he explained that an investigation had to be carried out to ascertain the situation.
Karafe further lamented that the committee even found an electrical engineer operating a private hospital and attending to patients, prescribing drugs, administering drips, and blood and even attending to pregnant women.
“We even found one who is a traditional medicine vendor, but he admitted cholera patients. We had to evacuate them to the hospital for proper treatment. Most of them don’t even have basic knowledge about health,” he stressed.
The chairman said one of the fake doctors said that he was a nurse but was later discovered to have only a secondary school leaving certificate.
He assured that all those found guilty would face the full wrath of the law.
