Osun court orders woman to pay N1 50,000 to boyfriend for failing to visit him after receiving N3,000 transport fare

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ilesa, Osun State, has ordered a woman, Rhoda Adu, to pay N150,000 to her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, for failing to honour a promise to visit him.

The dispute arose after Rhoda, who had requested N3,000 for transportation, agreed to visit Sola.

However, she failed to show up on the agreed date, causing significant emotional distress to Sola, who had been eagerly waiting for her.

Sola, feeling disappointed and frustrated by Rhoda’s actions, reported the matter to the police after she switched off her phone and did not arrive as promised.

Rhoda had received the N3,000 from Sola but did not fulfil her end of the agreement.

The incident was reported to the Ayeso Police Station, leading to Rhoda’s arrest and subsequent charge in the Magistrate Court.

During the trial, Sola presented evidence, including mobile money transfer receipts and WhatsApp messages between the two, which supported his claims.

Magistrate Akogun Oludare ruled that Rhoda must repay the N3,000 transport fare, as well as an additional N100,000 for breach of agreement and N50,000 for emotional distress caused by her failure to show up.

The court stressed that the judgment was intended to serve as a warning against similar actions in the future.
