Former Presidential aspirant Tari Oba mourns passing of Edwin clark

Today, I join the nation in mourning the passing of a true icon, an enigma, an Iroko, a colossus, and a patriarch, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark. As a proud Ijaw woman and former presidential aspirant, I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand his tireless advocacy for the Niger Delta region and the Ijaw people.

Chief Clark’s remarkable life was a testament to his dedication to Nigeria. From his early days as a commissioner for education to his later roles as federal commissioner for information and senator, he remained committed to the welfare of our people. His founding of the Pan Niger Delta Development Forum (PANDEF) was a pivotal moment in the region’s history, as it brought together stakeholders to advocate for the development of the Niger Delta.

I recall his words, ‘I am a Nigerian, I love Nigeria, Nigeria is my country, I am proud to be a Nigerian’. These words embody the patriotism and dedication that defined his life. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his legacy and the impact he had on our nation.

One of the qualities that I admire most about Chief Clark was his unbiased support for women, youth, and the vulnerable. He was a courageous leader who believed in the next generation of change-makers and was ready to support them in any way possible. His commitment to empowering marginalized groups was evident in his advocacy for policies that promoted social justice, equality, and human rights.

Let us honor his memory by continuing to work towards a better Nigeria, one that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all. May his passing inspire us to recommit to the values he held dear: justice, equality, and the advancement of our people.

Rest in peace, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark. Your legacy will live on in our hearts and in the progress we make towards a brighter future for Nigeria.
