AMAC, Moroccan Council sign MoU to boost local gov’t growth

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and the Prefectural Council of Rabat, Morocco, to encourage local government growth at both councils.

The agreement would promote the area council’s quick development, according to Mr. Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman of AMAC, who spoke following the signing ceremony in Abuja.

Maikalangu added that the five-year collaboration agreement would develop an action plan to enable it to provide the local council’s residents with the benefits of democracy.

According to Mrs. Abiodun Essiet, Consultant on Development Partners, AMAC, the Africa Support Fund, which focuses on international decentralized cooperation among local authorities, was the goal of the MoU.

The MoU would concentrate on particular areas of cooperation, she noted.

She stated that both councils would combine their efforts to increase the ability of CEOs and elected officials so they could successfully serve the general public.

In addition to planning and regional development, the MoU would support sustainable development and environmental protection.

Additionally, it offers a chance to foster social development, better administer public services, and exchange information on local administration.

“Institutional strengthening of local governments, digitalization and digitization of local administrations, awareness-raising, and the promotion of education for development

All of these contribute, she said, to the Sustainable Development Goals being met by 2030.

The goals of this relationship, according to the agreement seen by our correspondent, are to create a multi-sectoral partnership between the two signatories that is centered on the promotion of local development.

It also intends to establish and put into action an action plan that is centered on institutional support and advice for the creation of innovative local policies and, among other things, to encourage group thought on topics of shared interest
