Court Affirms Candidacy Of Dauda Lawal-Dare As PDP Governorship Candidate In Zamfara

An Appeal Court, Sokoto Division has reinstated  Dauda Lawal-Dare as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections.

We gathered that the court set aside an earlier judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, which had disqualified Lawal-Dare.

It would be recalled that in November, the high court nullified the governorship primary of the PDP that produced him as the party’s candidate, which was the second time the court would disqualify the party’s governorship primary election in the state.

The Federal High Court had also declared in its judgement that the PDP had no candidate for the governorship position in the forthcoming election in the state.

In September, the court nullified the previous primary that elected Lawal-Dare following a suit filed before by Ibrahim Shehu and two other aspirants challenging the credibility of the primary.

The court ordered a re-run but Lawal-Dare emerged winner at the re-run also in September.

However, the Appeal Court has nullified both judgments to affirmed Lawal-Dare as the PDP governorship candidate in the state.
