Nigeria’s President-Elect, Bola Tinubu and Charly Boy
Popular Nigerian singer, songwriter and presenter, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa (a.k.a Charly Boy), has mocked former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following his emergence as Nigeria’s President-elect.
We report that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, March 1, declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as the winner of the February 25th presidential election.
Tinubu’s victory, however, has come with a series of controversies, and Charly Boy, in the latest trolling of the APC presidential candidate, said the president-elect has only one credential in his lifetime, which is the certificate issued to him by INEC.
Taking to his verified Twitter page on Thursday, Charly Boy expressed concern about how Nigeria is currently being viewed abroad after Tinubu’s emergence as President Muhammadu Buhari‘s successor.
Charly Boy who is a staunch supporter of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said Tinubu should be allowed to enjoy INEC’s certificate of return for just a while.
He wrote: “Lord have mercy. The only certificate BAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) has ever had, please let him enjoy it for some time.”
Charly Boy further made demeaning remarks about the APC presidential candidate, talking about his drug dealing allegation and ‘conviction’ while he was living in the United States.
“My fellow Nigerians, we already have a problem with our image abroad, to add an alleged drug baron as our president to the mix is suicidal to our global image. Nigerians, na so we go leave am? This na very bad market for us oooo. To dey get visa go come dey hard small,” the entertainer tweeted.
We understand that Charly Boy’s trolling of Tinubu was a reference to allegations that came out during the president-elect’s bid and campaign for president, with some section of the public claiming the APC candidate falsified his age and educational records after he failed to provide INEC with the original credentials regarding his qualifications.
This news platform understands that Tinubu’s academic qualifications, including his birth records, have often been a contentious issue.
Tinubu, however, will battle Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party’s Obi at the court to hold on to his presidential victory.
The duo had disagreed with the outcome of the polls, alleging massive rigging and voter intimidation and harassment and had called for the election to be canceled.
They will now head to the court, according to their latest statements.
