His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, former vice president of Nigeria and PDP presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to extend the deadline for the introduction of the new naira notes. The current deadline for the new notes, which feature enhanced security features and improved durability, is January 31st.
According to H.E Atiku Abubakar, many Nigerians such as farmers and artisans in the rural areas are not aware of the deadline, while some have difficulty in taking their old naira notes to commercial banks located in the urban cites and that an extension would give the CBN more time to educate the public about the new currency and it’s deadline.
Many people are still not familiar with the new notes and are still using the old notes which the Central Bank of Nigeria said it will stop circulation.
